2012 TV year in review in Twitter form: Walking Dead, Andy Griffith, Honey Boo … – Atlanta Journal Constitution (blog)

I’m all for brevity so here’s a year in review about TV, national and local, using no more than 140 characters, in Twitter form:
- AMC zombie drama “The Walking Dead” (shot in Senoia) infected even more fans, breaking 10 million viewers a week. But we still miss T-Dog!
- Andy Griffith’s 1960s show remains as popular as ever in Atlanta, gets 7:30 p.m. slot on WATL-TV. Soon after, he goes fishin’ in that great lake in the thereafter.
- Atlanta lost MTV’s “Teen Wolf” to Los Angeles, but USA’s “Necessary Roughness,” VH1’s “Single Ladies” and many BET shows still thrive.
- Farewell to classy Channel 2 Action News anchor Monica Pearson after 37 years and 3,700 hairstyles.

- The world redneckonized pageant girl Alana ‘Honey Boo Boo’ Thompson and her wacky Georgia family. Sure beats being Kate Gosselin!
- Step off, “Real Housewives of Atlanta”! Welcome VH1’s “Love & Hip Hop Atlanta,’ where cheating, love triangles and creepy smiles prevailed.
- Speaking of ‘Housewives,’ Kim Zolciak leaves the show in a hail of curse words and bad juju. Her reward? A spin-off show.
- “X Factor” and “The Voice” sucked viewers away from “American Idol.” But Georgia winner Phillip Phillips had a hit with “Home.”
- Put away your Kit Kats: Brenda Leigh Johnson ends a seven-year run on TNT’s “The Closer.” Her colleagues solder on in “Major Crimes.”
- Atlanta’s TNT resurrects “Dallas” with a new generation of Ewings to scheme with Bobby, Sue Ellen and iconic J.R. (Larry Hagman, R.I.P.!)
- Marc Cherry’s “Desperate Housewives” leaves Wisteria Lane after eight seasons. Cherry’s new Lifetime show ‘Devious Maids’ debuts in 2013.
Steve Harvey has adjusted well to daytime talk show world in Chicago. CREDIT: AP
- Atlanta-based radio host and comic Steve Harvey moves to Chicago for his new syndicated talk show, which becomes a robust hit.
- Fair share of awkward moments when Madonna tried to turn back the clock during the Super Bowl halftime show. MIA’s middle finger didn’t help.
- The grouchy doctor is no longer in: “House” and Hugh Laurie shut down the medical mysteries after eight years on Fox.
- More changes at “Good Day Atlanta.” Farewell, Mark Hayes and Cheryl White. Hello, Ron Gant.
- Fall broadcast TV season generates no big hits – unless you count NBC’s “Revolution” (”Walking Dead Lite”) as a hit.
- Pass the doughnuts: Savannah Paula Deen has diabetes, nabs an endorsement deal for a diabetes drug. Anthony Bourdain reams her.
- Howard Stern takes over judge’s chair on ‘America’s Got Talent.’ He gets plaudits but ratings fall off. And go figure: a dog act won.
- Showtime’s conspiracy thriller “Homeland” keeps viewers riveted by Claire Danes’ facial contortions.
- We will always love you, Whitney Houston. And the new year won’t be the same without Dick Clark.
- Busy year for Anderson Cooper: he comes out, loses his syndicated talk show, gets retina burn in Portugal and wears an eye patch.
- The Olympics draws mondo ratings for NBC. Phelps, Gabby, Lochte: how quickly we forget!
- Who woulda thunk it? PBS becomes home to a buzz-worthy drama in ‘Downton Abbey.’ Thank you, Brits!
- “Good Morning America” overtook NBC’s ‘Today” show for the first time in 17 years. Biggest loser? Ann Curry, ousted as ratings slid.
- A casting misfire: Lindsay Lohan’s ill-fated, stilted comeback effort as Liz Taylor in “Liz & Dick” crashes and burns on Lifetime.
- CNN pulls in the big bucks for Time Warner but ratings woes led to change at the top: former NBC honcho Jeff Zucker takes over in January.
- Wrong-way move: veteran Fox 5 anchor Amanda Davis caught in a DUI accident and is now taking personal time off.
